These terms apply when you book workshop work, leave a bike or component with us, order a product, or buy goods or services from 77 Cycles.

Please read them before agreeing to work or placing an order.

1. About us

77 Cycles Limited
Company number: SC893933
Registered in Scotland
Registered office: 59 Bonnygate, Cupar, Fife, KY15 4BY
Shop address: 15A Strathmartine Road, Dundee, DD3 7RL

You can contact us through the Contact page on our website or by speaking to us in the shop.

2. Your consumer rights

Nothing in these terms limits your statutory consumer rights.

Goods we sell must be:

  • Of satisfactory quality

  • Fit for their intended purpose

  • As described

Workshop services must be carried out with reasonable care and skill.

Where no price or completion date has been agreed, the law may require the service to be provided for a reasonable price and within a reasonable time.

3. Workshop bookings

A workshop booking reserves time for us to assess or work on your bike. It does not guarantee that every requested job can be completed during that appointment.

We may need to inspect the bike before we can confirm:

  • The work required

  • Parts availability

  • The likely cost

  • The completion date

  • Whether it is safe or practical to carry out the work

Please provide accurate information about the bike, its condition and the problem you are experiencing.

4. Cancelling or changing a booking

Please give us at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or change a workshop booking.

We do not normally charge for a first missed appointment. However, we may require a deposit before accepting future bookings where appointments are repeatedly missed or cancelled at short notice.

If you cancel after work has started or after parts have been ordered, you may need to pay for:

  • Work already completed

  • Parts already fitted

  • Parts that cannot reasonably be cancelled or returned

  • Other reasonable costs we have already incurred

Any amount charged will reflect the work completed and our genuine costs.

5. Inspection and initial assessment

We will carry out a reasonable inspection based on the service requested and the condition of the bike when it arrives.

Unless a full inspection or safety assessment has been agreed, our work may not identify every fault or area of wear on the bike.

Some faults only become apparent when:

  • The bike is dismantled

  • Components are cleaned

  • Parts are removed

  • The bike is tested

  • Internal components are inspected

We will tell you if we discover significant additional work.

6. Estimates and quotations

An estimate is our best assessment of the likely price based on the information available at the time. The final price may change if further faults, damage or parts requirements are identified.

A quotation is a fixed price for the agreed work. It may still change if:

  • You request additional work

  • The agreed scope changes

  • Hidden damage or faults are discovered

  • Information provided to us was incomplete or inaccurate

  • A supplier changes a price before you approve an amended order

We will explain any material change and seek your approval before proceeding.

Minor adjustments that are reasonably necessary to complete the authorised work may be carried out without separate approval where they do not materially increase the agreed price.

7. Authorising additional work

We may contact you by telephone, text message, email or through the booking system to explain additional work.

We will not carry out material additional work without your approval.

If we cannot reach you, we may:

  • Pause the job

  • Complete only the work already authorised

  • Reassemble the bike where reasonably possible

  • Ask you to collect the bike before further work is carried out

Delays in receiving your response may affect the completion date.

8. Prices and payment

Prices quoted to consumers include VAT where applicable unless clearly stated otherwise.

Payment is due when the work is complete or when the goods are collected, unless we agree something different in writing.

We may ask for payment in advance for:

  • Special-order parts

  • Bikes or frames ordered for a customer

  • Custom builds

  • High-value components

  • Work requiring significant parts or external costs

We may retain the bike, component or goods until the amount due has been paid, where permitted by law.

We accept the payment methods displayed in the shop.

9. Deposits

We may require a deposit before:

  • Ordering a bike, frame or component

  • Starting a custom build

  • Booking substantial workshop work

  • Reserving high-value stock

  • Committing to non-returnable supplier costs

The deposit amount will be explained before you place the order.

A deposit is not automatically non-refundable in every circumstance.

If you cancel, we may deduct reasonable costs that we cannot recover, including:

  • Supplier cancellation charges

  • Delivery or return charges

  • Work already completed

  • Parts specifically altered or fitted for you

  • A reasonable amount for other direct losses caused by the cancellation

We will return any balance remaining after those reasonable costs have been deducted.

If we cancel the order and you are not at fault, we will normally refund the deposit in full.

10. Parts availability and delays

Completion dates are estimates unless we expressly agree a fixed deadline.

Work may be delayed by circumstances such as:

  • Parts being unavailable

  • Supplier or courier delays

  • Additional faults being identified

  • Manufacturer technical advice being required

  • Specialist work being sent to an external provider

  • Delayed approval from the customer

  • Circumstances outside our reasonable control

We will keep you informed where a significant delay occurs.

Tell us before agreeing to the work if completion by a particular date is essential.

11. Specialist and outsourced work

Some specialist services may be carried out by an approved third party, manufacturer, distributor or specialist service centre.

This may include certain:

  • Suspension services

  • Motor or battery diagnostics

  • Frame repairs

  • Wheel or component work

  • Manufacturer warranty assessments

We will tell you where we intend to send your property to a third party and will remain your main point of contact unless otherwise agreed.

12. Customer-supplied parts

We may agree to fit parts supplied by you, but we are not required to accept them.

We may refuse to fit a customer-supplied part where we reasonably believe it is:

  • Incompatible

  • Unsafe

  • Damaged

  • Counterfeit

  • Excessively worn

  • Missing required fittings or instructions

  • Unsuitable for the bike or intended use

You are responsible for confirming the origin and authenticity of parts you supply.

We are responsible for carrying out the agreed fitting work with reasonable care and skill. However, we are not responsible for faults inherent in a customer-supplied part or for incompatibility that could not reasonably have been identified before fitting.

Additional labour may be charged if an unsuitable or faulty customer-supplied part must be removed, investigated or replaced.

13. Used, damaged or previously modified bikes

Please tell us about any known damage, previous repairs, modifications or unusual components.

We are not responsible for pre-existing:

  • Damage

  • Wear

  • Corrosion

  • Poor workmanship

  • Incorrect assembly

  • Hidden frame defects

  • Unauthorised modifications

  • Problems caused by incompatible components

We will take reasonable care of your property while it is with us.

If work reveals that a component cannot safely be reused, we may pause the job until a suitable replacement is agreed.

14. Dirty or contaminated bikes

Bikes should be reasonably clean when brought to the workshop.

We may refuse or postpone work on a bike that is excessively dirty or contaminated with substances such as oil, sewage, animal waste, blood or other material that could create a health or safety risk.

Where appropriate, we may offer cleaning for an additional agreed charge before workshop work begins.

15. Electric bikes and batteries

We will only undertake electric-bike work that is within our skills, equipment and manufacturer access.

We may refuse to work on:

  • Damaged, swollen or leaking batteries

  • Batteries or electrical systems we believe may be unsafe

  • Unauthorised or illegally modified systems

  • Components for which suitable technical information is unavailable

  • Systems requiring manufacturer-only tools or access

Please provide any keys, chargers, displays or other equipment needed to assess the bike.

Battery condition and range can be affected by age, temperature, usage, storage and charging history. Unless specifically agreed, a general bike service does not include a full battery-capacity assessment.

16. Removed parts

Tell us when authorising the work if you want to keep replaced or removed parts.

Unless:

  • The part must be returned for warranty assessment

  • The manufacturer requires it to be retained

  • It contains hazardous material

  • We have agreed otherwise

we will normally recycle or dispose of removed parts after the bike has been collected.

17. Completion and collection

We will contact you when your bike or goods are ready for collection.

Please collect them within 14 calendar days of our first notification unless another arrangement has been agreed.

Payment must normally be made before or at collection.

Where someone else is collecting on your behalf, we may ask for confirmation or identification before releasing the bike or goods.

18. Storage and uncollected bikes

We have limited storage space.

If a bike or other item is not collected within 14 calendar days of our first notification, we may charge a storage fee of £5 per calendar day from day 15.

We will normally send a reminder before storage charges begin.

If an item remains uncollected for 60 days, we will make reasonable attempts to contact you and provide written notice before taking further action.

We may then take lawful steps to:

  • Recover unpaid workshop and storage charges

  • Arrange continued storage

  • Return the item where practical and at your cost

  • Deal with the uncollected item as permitted by law

We will not treat a bike as abandoned or dispose of it without taking reasonable steps to contact you and giving appropriate notice.

19. Checking the bike after workshop work

We may test ride or operate the bike where reasonably necessary to diagnose a problem or check completed work.

When collecting your bike, please follow any instructions we give you about:

  • Bedding in brakes

  • Checking bolt tensions

  • Suspension setup

  • Tyre pressure

  • New component adjustment

  • Follow-up servicing

  • Manufacturer running-in requirements

Contact us promptly if you believe there is a problem with the work.

Do not continue riding the bike if you believe it may be unsafe.

20. Workshop problems and remedial work

Please give us a reasonable opportunity to inspect and address concerns relating to our work.

Where a workshop service has not been carried out with reasonable care and skill, we will provide the remedy required by law. This may include repeating the relevant work or providing an appropriate price reduction.

This does not cover problems caused by:

  • Normal wear and tear

  • Accidental damage

  • Misuse or neglect

  • Continued riding after a fault became apparent

  • Failure to follow maintenance or bedding-in instructions

  • Unrelated faults

  • Defective customer-supplied parts

  • Alterations or work carried out by someone else after collection

Nothing in this section limits your statutory rights.

21. Retail sales

These terms apply to bikes, frames, components, clothing, accessories, maintenance products and other goods sold by 77 Cycles.

Please check that the product is suitable before buying. Ask us where you need help with:

  • Compatibility

  • Sizing

  • Intended use

  • Fitting requirements

  • Manufacturer specifications

Our advice will be based on the information you provide.

Tell us about the bike, components and intended use where compatibility is important.

22. Ownership and risk

Goods remain the property of 77 Cycles until they have been paid for in full.

You become responsible for the goods when you or a person nominated by you takes physical possession of them.

Where we arrange delivery, responsibility will pass in accordance with your legal rights and the delivery arrangement confirmed with you.

23. Change-of-mind returns for shop purchases

You do not automatically have a legal right to return goods bought in the shop simply because you have changed your mind.

However, as a goodwill policy, we will normally offer an exchange or store credit where:

  • You return the product within 14 days

  • You provide proof of purchase

  • The product is unused

  • The product is complete and in its original condition

  • Packaging, labels, instructions and accessories are present

  • The product can reasonably be sold again as new

This goodwill policy does not normally apply to:

  • Bikes or components that have been ridden or fitted

  • Helmets or protective equipment that have been used

  • Clothing that has been worn beyond trying it on

  • Opened consumables, sealants, lubricants or cleaning products

  • Cut, altered or customised goods

  • Special-order or personalised products

  • Gift cards or vouchers

  • Clearance goods clearly sold as non-returnable because of a disclosed issue

These exclusions do not affect your rights where goods are faulty, incorrectly described or otherwise do not meet legal requirements.

Any refund offered outside this policy is at our discretion.

24. Faulty goods

Contact us promptly if you believe goods are faulty, not as described or unsuitable for a purpose you specifically discussed with us before purchase.

We may ask for:

  • Proof of purchase

  • Details of the fault

  • Photographs or video

  • The product to be returned for inspection

  • Information about fitting, maintenance and use

Depending on the circumstances and your legal rights, the appropriate remedy may include:

  • A refund

  • Repair

  • Replacement

  • Price reduction

We may need to send the item to the manufacturer or distributor for technical assessment. This does not remove any responsibility 77 Cycles has to you as the retailer.

25. Manufacturer warranties

Some goods include a manufacturer’s warranty in addition to your statutory rights.

The warranty may require:

  • Proof of purchase

  • Product registration

  • Correct installation

  • Proper servicing and maintenance

  • Compliance with weight, use or service limits

  • Inspection by the manufacturer or distributor

Manufacturer warranty decisions are subject to the warranty’s conditions.

A manufacturer’s warranty does not replace or reduce your statutory rights against 77 Cycles.

Damage caused by crashes, misuse, neglect, incorrect installation, unauthorised alteration or normal wear may not be covered by a manufacturer’s warranty.

26. Special orders

A special order is a product we order specifically at your request and which is not part of our usual available stock.

Before placing the order, we will confirm:

  • The product and specification

  • The expected price

  • Any required deposit

  • The expected delivery timeframe

  • Any known restrictions on cancellation or return

If you cancel a special order, we may deduct reasonable costs we cannot recover.

A standard product being specially ordered is not automatically excluded from any cancellation rights that apply to a distance sale.

Goods made to your specification, personalised for you or altered at your request may have different cancellation rights.

27. Custom builds

Before beginning a custom build, we will normally agree:

  • The frame and components

  • The intended use

  • The estimated or quoted price

  • The deposit

  • Any customer-supplied parts

  • The expected timeframe

Changes requested after parts have been ordered may increase the price or delay completion.

We may propose alternative components where an agreed item becomes unavailable. We will seek your approval before making a material substitution.

The final specification may differ slightly where minor items such as cable lengths, fittings or small hardware need to be changed for compatibility or safe assembly.

28. Distance and telephone orders

We do not currently sell directly through our website.

If we agree a sale entirely by telephone, email or another distance method, additional legal cancellation rights may apply.

Where applicable, we will provide the required information about:

  • The goods or services

  • The price

  • Delivery

  • Cancellation rights

  • Return costs

  • Any relevant exceptions

Different rules may apply to personalised goods, custom-made goods or services that begin during a cancellation period at your express request.

29. Sale, clearance and ex-display goods

Goods bought in a sale have the same statutory rights as goods bought at full price.

Where goods are used, ex-display, shop-soiled or reduced because of a specific defect, we will describe the relevant condition before sale.

You will not normally be able to claim for a defect that:

  • Was clearly explained before purchase

  • You examined and accepted

  • Was the reason for the price reduction

Your other statutory rights remain unaffected.

30. Cycle to Work schemes

Cycle to Work transactions are also subject to the rules of the relevant scheme provider.

Before arranging a certificate or voucher, please confirm with us:

  • That we accept the scheme

  • Which products are eligible

  • The correct value

  • Any administration requirements

  • Whether a deposit or additional payment is permitted

  • The expected availability of the selected goods

Once a certificate has been issued or redeemed, changes, cancellations and refunds may need approval from the scheme provider.

Any refund will normally be returned through the original scheme or payment route rather than paid directly to the customer.

Nothing in this section removes any statutory rights that apply to the goods or services.

31. Test rides

Test rides are available only with our permission and may be subject to:

  • Proof of identity

  • Age restrictions

  • Suitable clothing and a helmet

  • A defined route or time limit

  • Weather and road or trail conditions

  • The availability of a demonstration bike

You must follow reasonable safety instructions and use the bike responsibly.

You may be responsible for loss or damage caused deliberately or through unreasonable misuse. You will not be responsible for normal wear, an existing defect or loss caused by our negligence.

32. Events outside our control

We are not responsible for delays caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as:

  • Supplier shortages

  • Courier disruption

  • Severe weather

  • Utility or communications failures

  • Manufacturer delays

  • Illness or unexpected staff absence

  • Government restrictions

We will contact you where possible and take reasonable steps to minimise the effect of the delay.

If a significant delay means we cannot provide the agreed product or service, your legal rights will continue to apply.

33. Our responsibility for loss or damage

We are responsible for loss or damage that is a foreseeable result of our breach of contract or failure to use reasonable care and skill.

We are not responsible for loss or damage that:

  • Was not caused by us

  • Results from a pre-existing fault

  • Could not reasonably have been foreseen

  • Results from inaccurate or incomplete information provided by you

  • Results from using a product contrary to clear instructions

  • Relates to business or commercial losses where you purchased as a consumer

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

34. Personal information

We use personal information to manage bookings, workshop work, purchases, payments, warranties and customer enquiries.

More information is available in our Privacy Policy.

35. Complaints

Please contact us as soon as possible if you are unhappy with a product or service.

Provide:

  • Your name and contact details

  • The booking, receipt or invoice details

  • A description of the issue

  • Any relevant photographs or supporting information

  • The outcome you are seeking

We will review the matter and respond as soon as reasonably possible.

We may need to inspect the bike, product or component before proposing a resolution.

36. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms when our services, processes, suppliers or legal responsibilities change.

The terms applying to a particular transaction will normally be those provided or made available when the booking, order or sale was agreed.

37. Governing law

These terms are governed by Scots law.

Nothing in this section affects any mandatory consumer protections or rights concerning where a customer may bring legal proceedings.

38. Contact

Questions about these terms can be submitted through the Contact page on our website.
